This blog is generally a knitting blog, but I'll also include the daily adventures at GooseHollow.

Three days without the bear getting into the goose feed and we thought the little mother and her cub were off to a happier place---no, not bear-heaven, just a nice comfy spot where they could have fabulous bear slumber until next spring. But, this morning, after much goose scolding, assorted chicken alarms, and duck quackings, I spotted our delightful momma bear and her cub. She was a bit out of sorts today. She was a hungry ole' gal, and not pleased that we had moved the supply of goose feed out of her grasp. I had already done chores when she appeared. It didn't take her long to surmise that there was a large supply of grain just inside the bird enclosure. Climbing the fence evidently was not an option, so they decided to take down the fence instead. By the time I got the 200 ft down to the goose pen, the bears had the fence down, and were munching down on the chow. As I have stated before, they are eating machines, and in no time at all they had every last morsel of grain vacuumed up. The geese, chickens, and ducks, took the fence being obliterated as their invitation to scram, and did. The geese headed up to the house, they chickens assessed the situation from the cedar trees, the ducks hid in the salal bushes. I watched from a far, and when they finally lumbered away, I moved in. Firstly, panic struck, how was I going to round 40 plus birds up by myself, normally this isn't hard, but I figured they were scared, I knew I was, and how was I going to repair a whole 50 ft section of fence by myself. Well, to make a long story short, I used every cow bell I could find, a couple of stock gates, the tractor, and a wagon to gerryrig one heck of a noisy contraption. When DH got home from work, long after dark, he just shook his head, and said that I was one ingenious broad. I take that as a compliment.
My "Summer of Love" sock in started about the third week of August with the Aug. STR kit. I commenced the original cast on that week. Loved the pattern, loved the yarn, and my socks were on the way to my sock drawer. Then, it seemed like a fabulous idea to make my DD#1 a pair to wear on her cold feet during labor. I finished that pair around the second week of Sept. and darling GD arrived the 30th of Sept. Then DD#2 saw them and the need for pair 3 came about. Anyway, all three pairs are now finished and ready to be worn and loved by all.
